School-Age Services for the Blind/Low Vision

Vision Resource Services provides support to students who are blind/low vision and residing within the province of Ontario. Educational consultants are certified with the Ontario College of Teachers and have qualifications as Specialist Teachers of the Blind/Low Vision.

Services provided may include:

  • Functional vision assessments
  • Consultation and assessment to determine appropriate learning media (braille, large print and/or auditory)
  • Programming recommendations for braille, and other tactile formats, as primary learning media
  • Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI) assessments
  • A written report providing recommendations for educational programming including transition recommendations when applicable
  • Assessments to determine eligibility to obtain Specialized Equipment Allocation (SEA) funding, Ministry of Education Special Grants for Adaptive Equipment needs
  • Consultation to determine the need for Orientation and Mobility services
  • Interpretation of optometric and ophthalmological reports regarding a student’s vision, for functional use in the educational setting 
  • Support at meetings and/or case conferences, as requested
  • Workshops, presentations, and/or professional development opportunities for school staff and other board personnel
