Preschool Resource Services and Outreach Program for the Deaf

The Deaf and Hard of Hearing Resources Department provides outreach support for students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing throughout the province from birth through high school. Our goal is to ensure every Deaf and Hard of Hearing child in Ontario has an equal opportunity to access the Ontario Curriculum.

The preschool program facilitates the development of children who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing in the areas of:

  • Language
  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Belonging and contributing
  • Wellbeing and self advocacy
  • Play and inquiry

Programs are delivered by specialist teachers who are registered with the Ontario College of Teachers and who have a specialist in Deaf/Hard of Hearing education with additional training in early intervention methodologies. Participation is tailored to meet families’ needs through various types of services:

  • In home service delivery
  • Community-based play groups
  • Play and learning centres
  • Technology enabled learning opportunities
  • Workshops
  • Daycare support
  • Newsletters

Our outreach program also facilitates access to other services offered by Provincial and Demonstration Schools Branch such as:

  • Speech and language consultation services
  • Psychological consultation services
  • American Sign Language (ASL) family consultant program
  • Educational consultants
  • Other parent focused learning opportunities
