The Provincial and Demonstration Schools Branch - Resource Services consists of the following services and programs:

Resource Services – Deaf/Hard of Hearing

Preschool services provide:

  • In home service delivery
  • Community-based play groups
  • Play and learning centres
  • Technology enabled learning opportunities
  • Workshops
  • Daycare support
  • Newsletters

School age services provide:

  • Consultative services
  • Student American Sign Language (ASL) Programs
  • Parent Virtual American Sign Language (ASL) Classes
  • Professional Development Workshops

Vision Resource Services   

Provides:

  • Vision assessments for school-aged students (and children entering school) who are blind/low vision; the assessment is initiated by referral from school personnel (medical documentation and parental consent are required)
  • Recommendations for programming and technology to support students in the educational setting
  • Assessments for preschool children (ages 2+) who are likely to be tactile learners; recommendations to support the Early Childhood Vision Consultant with programming for the child 
  • Workshops for schools and educational personnel on requested topics 
  • Educational consultants who are certified with the Ontario College of Teachers and have qualifications as Specialist Teachers of the Blind/Low Vision

Deafblind Resource Services 

Provides:

  • Functional Deafblind Assessments upon referral - medical documentation required
  • Support available for children (ages 0-21) who have been assessed as functioning deafblind
  • Ongoing consultative support to schools, families, paraprofessionals, and outside agencies (e.g., daycare centres, children’s treatment centres); specifically pertaining to the implementation of deafblind methods and intervention strategies
  • Professional development opportunities on a variety of topics related to deafblindness
  • Educational consultants who are certified with the Ontario College of Teachers and have qualifications as Specialist Teachers of the Deafblind, of the Blind/Low Vision, and/or of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing

Short Term Programs

Provide: 

  • Weekend programs for students who are blind/low vision (free of charge) 
  • An opportunity for students to meet other students with similar lived experience
  • Activities and programming specifically designed to address the unique needs of students with vision loss
